Cushion & Weight Explained
Cushion
Cushion is padding created by knit terry loops. It adds protection in high-impact areas, absorbs shock, and boosts warmth and comfort.
- No Cushion — a thin knit with no lift from terry loops. Regardless of yarn weight, this is a thin sock.
- Cushion — terry loops underfoot and in select zones, without wrapping the foot. The most popular, versatile option.
- Full Cushion — terry loops run the entire length of the sock, or at least up to the cuff, wrapping the foot and leg.
Weight
Yarn weight is measured in microns and changes how warm, thin, and durable a sock feels.
- Ultra-Lightweight — the lowest profile, nearly a second skin. Sleek and smooth even with cushion.
- Lightweight — the most versatile weight, found in nearly every category. Pairs especially well with cushion.
- Midweight — built for the outdoors. More natural insulation and durable enough for long-distance use.
- Heavyweight — the warmest option. Always cushioned, and usually knit with the highest merino wool content.
Sizing FAQs
How do I determine my sock size?
Start with the shoe size you normally wear — that tells you which sock size to choose. Each sock size fits two to three shoe sizes. If you fall between two size categories, size up.
Are socks one size fits all?
No, but each sock size does fit several shoe sizes. Socks stretch to accommodate different foot sizes, yet a properly matched size always delivers the best fit and comfort.
Are sock size and shoe size the same?
They are not the same, but your shoe size is the easiest way to find your sock size. For example, a men's US 11 shoe corresponds to a men's Large sock, which covers US 10 - 12.
What size socks do I need?
Check your shoe size, look it up in the charts above, and choose the matching sock size. When you are between sizes, always step up to the next size.
How do I check the size of a sock I already own?
Look inside the sock cuff, where the size is knit into the fabric — for example, "M" for medium.
Measurements are shown in inches and sizes are listed in US, UK, and Euro equivalents. Sizing is provided as a general guide — final fit depends on the individual style, cushioning, and personal preference.
